Teotten Diagnostics is developing point-of-care diagnostics for
early detection of life-threatening infectious disease associated
with medical care and hospital-acquired infection.
Teotten is focusing its initial resources on the development of diagnostic
tests for life-threatening infectious diseases associated with the use of
central venous catheters.  There are five million central venous catheters
(CVC's) inserted into patients each year in the United States alone.
The entire five million CVC patient population is at risk for bloodstream
infection.  The frequency of CVC-associated bloodstream infections is
one in twenty, with a total of 250,000 cases each year.  The prognosis
for patients identified as having a CVC-associated infection is poor.
There is a medical need for diagnostic products to detect these diseases in the early
stages of infection.  Early detection allows physicians to intervene with appropriate
treatment before the infection becomes life-threatening.  This leads to a significant
reduction in patient mortality, and a significant reduction in healthcare costs.

Developing diagnostics for life-threatening infectious disease.
There is a 12-25% chance of death from the disease, leading to
30,000-60,000 deaths each year in the United States.  Teotten's next
product lines in development are diagnostic tests for early detection of
life-threatening sepsis.  There are an estimated 751,000 cases of sepsis
in the United States each year with an associated mortality of nearly 30%,
leading to 215,000 deaths per annum.
